Eric Beck - Teacher

Mr. Beck (a.k.a. “Eric” and “Daddy” in various alternative settings) currently teaches science and technology at REALMS.  He likes having fun, getting to know his students, and watching them get excited about learning and thinking.  Therefore, his favorite parts of teaching are fieldwork, long-term projects and activities, crew cup competitions, check-ins, and dance parties.  Turn-offs include grading, anything repetitive or detail-oriented, and meanness.

Before coming to REALMS in 2002, Mr. Beck taught for 4 years in Northern California and on the Blackfeet Reservation in Northern Montana.  He originally hails from corn-filled Northern (are you noticing a pattern here) Illinois but truly came alive when he moved to the mountains of the West.  Before getting his teaching credential at Humboldt State University, Eric studied biology and geology at Beloit College (BS) and Utah State University (MS).

Outside of school, Mr. Beck spends his time dancing, doing puppet shows, gardening, crafting, building fairy houses, and going on nature hikes with his wife Kelly, two year old son Wyatt, and almost five year old daughter Lilah.  His pre-daddy hobbies included telemark skiing (he is an extreme-advanced-beginner), cross-country skiing (his favorite), fly fishing (he stinks), climbing (extreme beginner), and canoeing, hiking, biking, running, and exploring (recreational participant).  He now dabbles in all of these activities and can hardly wait to participate fully with his family!!  Mr. Beck’s biggest musical influences have been the Grateful Dead, Bob Marley, Van Morrison, and Sly and the Family Stone.
