Roger White - Director
Throughout his career in education Roger has worked in some remarkable educational settings. For four years he taught environmental science and outdoor leadership while dodging bears in the Canadian Rockies, scrambling through the canyons of the American Southwest, and hanging from ropes on the towering cliffs of Yosemite National Park. It was these powerful experiences as an educator and adventurer that helped forge Roger’s commitment to bringing the best of experiential education into public school classrooms.
Since that time, Roger has spent fifteen years as a teacher and educational leader in three outstanding and progressive schools whose mission it is to blend academic rigor with adventure and active learning. He has taught science and social studies at both the middle and high school levels and for the last 7 years has had the honor of fulfilling the role of Director at REALMS where he enjoys the opportunity to work not just with students, but with parents, and teachers, and community members as well.
One of the programs Roger is most proud and excited about helping to create is the middle school Travel Study program at REALMS. His favorite part about working at REALMS is watching the students and faculty get carried away with the excitement of learning during one of our many expeditions, simulations or classroom projects. When not working, you might see Roger biking or running on the trails around Bend, possibly with one or more “creatures” in tow!
