School Culture - A Crew.

"We are crew, we are not passengers!"

At REALMS, we actively build a strong school culture where students feel safe, included, and connected. Through purposeful community building structures and activities, students and teachers come to know each other well and form the bonds of trust, empathy, and caring that allow each student to reach his or her academic and personal potential.
Each day at REALMS includes crew time. Crews are multi-age groupings of approximately 18 students and are facilitated by 2 teachers each. Each student is assigned to one of those two teachers as an Advisor. Each student remains in the same crew throughout his or her three years at REALMS.

During Crew, students:

Prepare for and reflect on the day’s learning
Set and monitor personal educational & personal goals with advisor
Participate in community building activities
Practice leadership skills

Community Building Fieldwork

At different points throughout the year, students venture out of the classroom to participate in activities designed specifically to build bonds of trust, empathy, and caring. Such experiences in include a beginning of the year camping trip, ropes course experiences, service projects and more.
