In-Depth Investigation:  “Importance of the Past - Saving Traditions"

Summary
Students develop skills of scientific methods in archaeology through exploration activities, analyzing, interpreting and documenting information.  They learn the relevance of observation, context, descriptive names and avoiding ethnocentrism and use these to understand the importance of the past.  We will compare local archaeological sites and issues with those of Vancouver Island.

In-Depth Investigation:  “What if my beliefs are different from your beliefs?”

Summary
Students learn about the cultures of Vancouver Island and the surrounding area, their historical context, cultural identities, and interrelations.  Investigations will focus specifically on the cultures we plan to interact with on the trip phase of the Travel Study Experience primarily the Kwakwaka'wakw.
